'Sense of Place'

I have finished my 'sense of place' and it has filled an entire sketchbook! This presents my dedication and interest in the subject matter. To start with I gathered lots of image reference from the library at uni and placed them within my book. I then reflected upon these images and conjured my own work to go alongside and compliment them. Here are a few examples:

'Corruption'

'Negative'

'Orchids'

'Femme Fatale'

'Advertising'

'Corporate States'

'By the Pool'

'The Screaming Cabaret'

'Knight's Play'

'Weathered'

'America'

'The Wealthy'

'Greenhouse'

'Ink and Water'

'BEST'

'Haystack'

'Bloody Game'
I have created imagery relating to the themes, motifs and symbols in the story, which include: the knight, the orchids, the weather and the corruption of American society. The latter I further explored in my own way and began playing with the US flag. My pen and ink technique delivers the subject effectively by looking almost like oil, which as we all know is a big money earner in America (especially in the 30's). The work so far is quite prolific in that it looks playful and presents variety.
